Designers' Collection history

Designers' Collection was founded by two of New Zealand's leading Interior Designers, Andi Wheeler and Timmy Pinfold in 1986.

Originally called Galleria, Designers' Collection was based in Wolf Street in Central Auckland and sold a range of furniture mainly originating from Australia.  Gradually Interior Designers were attracted to the unique product range.

Andi and Timmy relocated to Arney Road in Remuera for a time before discovering in 1992 that the Blind Foundation complex on the corner of Broadway & George St in Newmarket was vacant.  An article in the New Zealand Herald covered the intriguing story about the ghosts of the Blind Foundation.  On first viewing, the space that Designers' Collection now occupies was completely empty bar a single light bulb, bath for soaking cane (used for weaving baskets) and a toilet.

The space was tranformed and exhibited a range of furniture including locally upholstered furniture, imported frames and cane furniture.  The walls of the showroom were painted Armadillo and the majority of the furniture was covered in neutral coloured fabrics.

In December 2004, Andi and Timmy sold Designers' Collection to the current owners Rod and Mary Hanna.
